Taxonomy: Percussion Welding

Description

Percussion welding joins metallic workpieces together by simultaneously creating an electrical arc at the joint and forcing the workpieces together.

Overview of Process

Percussion welding is a process that joins many types of metals to each other at a joint. The workpieces are placed close to each other, and a quick burst of electrical energy is directed at the joint. When the arc forms, the workpieces are also forcefully pushed together, which causes the melted edges to combine and, when cooled, form a permanent bond.
