Taxonomy: Electroslag Welding
Electroslag welding is a process of welding (joining by melting) two thick pieces of metal with an electric arc and molten slag.
Overview of Process
Electroslag welding is a process for welding (joining by melting) two pieces of thick metal (often steel) by inserting flux between the two pieces, then causing the formation of an electric arc between them. This arc causes the formation of extremely high temperatures, which results in a mass of molten slag between the workpieces, forming a joint as it cools.
